Who is a Freight Forwarder?

A freight forwarder is a party or a company that acts as the agent of the cargo owner. They can further describe as the companies specialized in providing logistics services to their customers. Also, name as international freight forwarders or freight brokers, or simply forwarders. These agents are third-party Logistics service providers to the manufacturing or cargo distributing companies.

Freight forwarders generally have networks of offices around the world. These freight brokers in different locations may belong to the same group of companies. Or they could be different companies that mutually agreed to work together as they do not have their own network to cover the freight forwarding work in different countries.

Having a network helps them to cater to the demand of their customers in different countries without limiting their business. The more the network, the more they become strong players in the freight forwarding industry. Shippers and consignees find it very easy to work with freight brokers as they have a network of agencies in other countries.

Once the goods are handed over to the forwarder at the origin, they make sure to deliver the goods to the agreed destination.

Some shipping lines have their own freight forwarding companies to facilitate international trade and increase their control in the logistics industry and enhance customer satisfaction.
